How to Get Women Involved in Politics
For many years, politics wasn’t even on my radar. Like so many women, I was busy raising my kids, working full time, driving to sports practices, doing homework, and keeping our household together. The last thing on my “to-do list” was politics.
Looking back, I wish I had paid more attention. Shame on me for not realizing sooner how much politics affects our daily lives — from the policies in our schools, to the taxes we pay, to the safety of our communities.
My Political Journey
It wasn’t until I started working at the Las Vegas Police Protective Association (LVPPA) about 10 years ago that I really got my first glimpse into local political races. At first, I still wasn’t fully engaged. But over the years, as I watched and learned, something changed.
Now, I want to soak up every bit of information I can. I’ve had experiences that only deepened my passion:
-
Meeting President Trump when he visited our office.
-
Leading the Pledge of Allegiance at a rally for JD Vance.
-
Being invited to Washington, D.C. for the 2025 inauguration.
Those moments lit a fire in me. Today, I’m not just paying attention — I’m actively involved, and I’m encouraging my children (now 25 and 32) to do the same. Because who we vote for does matter, and it shapes the world they are inheriting.
Why Women’s Voices Matter
I’m not an expert. I’m still learning every single day. But here’s what I know: it is important for women to be involved at any level they can.
Women bring unique perspectives, experiences, and strengths to the political table. Whether it’s raising a family, running a business, or serving our community, we know firsthand what’s at stake. Our voices matter — in our neighborhoods, in our cities, in our state, and across the nation.
Getting Started: Simple Ways to Get Involved
You don’t need to run for office or be a political insider to make a difference. Here are a few small steps that can have a big impact:
-
Attend a Meeting: Join us at ARWLV. Even just sitting in and listening will help you stay informed.
-
Know Who’s Running: Learn about your local candidates — what they believe in and what they stand for.
-
Ask Questions: Don’t be afraid to say, “I don’t know.” Learning together builds strength and confidence.
-
Set an Example: Show your kids, your friends, and your community that politics isn’t just for “someone else.” It affects all of us.
Join Me on This Journey
I’m still learning. I’m still asking questions. But I’ve realized that if women don’t step up, we leave decisions about our families, our jobs, and our freedoms in someone else’s hands.
So I’m reaching out to women like you — women who want to learn, who want to get involved, and who want to make a difference.
Come to a meeting. Get connected. Be a part of the conversation.
Together, we can grow, support each other, and shape a better future for Nevada and for America.
